Laughed until I cried

On Sunday I went to see Menopause the Musical with two friends. I got the idea of arranging a girls day out after reading another blog (sorry can't remember who). The recommendation was so strong I clicked on the link and right there and then decided I needed to arrange a road trip. The show is about 90 minutes or so of non-stop laughing...unless you are the teenager/20 something gal that sat next to my friend Jeannie. After the show at an early dinner Jeannie said the poor girl didn't laugh or smile throughout the show. We all said she'll get it in about 20 years then realize what it's all about. The show was so great I bought the soundtrack, something I rarely do. Not only is the show entertaining but a portion of the proceeds goes to ovarian cancer research. For those of you down under it is coming your way so check out the link to see when you too can laugh until you cry.

Stampers Corner March ATC of the month

This month at my Yahoo group Stampers Corner our ATC of the month club had a theme of “acetate use”. The base of this cards is using the Rock King card stock from DCWV. On top of that is a whitish piece of paper cut to the same size as my acetate. I’ve got a pack from the Paper Cut. It is heat quality so you can use it in a copy machine or laser printer and you can heat emboss on it too. I ran a 8.5 x 11 piece through my laser printer and printed some free quotes from Pennywise Arts. I adhered the paper to the acetate with my Xyron to hide the glue lines. I used Ranger alcohol inks in the following colors: lettuce, meadow, pesto, bottle and stream. The finishing touches were a bit of peel-off stickers from Dovecraft colored with the same alcohol ink colors and some outlining with a Marvy Metallic Marker. Hope you like it.

Giving Credit where it is due

A while back I had a post of the page I submitted for the Yahoo Mixed Media Art Friends that I belong to. I had seen a video that gave me inspiration but couldn't remember who did it. It bothered me and I kept searching using different terms and FINALLY found the source. Jennifer McGuire made this post and although I modified it using recycled cardboard instead of Grungeboard and Gel Medium rather than Mod Podge the concept was basically the same. Take a look at Jennifer's video and maybe you too will be inspired to make something fun.

American Gothic redone

Here's another card made using a technique with a used dryer sheet. This one is an anniversary card. The stamps are from Lost Coast Designs. I stamped the diamonds on the blank card blank then added the other elements. The "revised" American Gothic image was stamped on glossy paper then colored in with Whisper pastel markers. I covered the entire image with the used dryer sheet using my Xyron. I think it is a fun card.

John Lubbock quote ATC

Once again, here’s another item I made with the free set of art quotes from Pennywise Art. After printing the quotes on acetate I colored this one with Ranger Alcohol Inks using Raisin, Cranberry, Red Pepper, a bit of blending solution and Silver. I cut it out and rounded the corners. I glued the acetate to a white backing paper using Diamond Glaze then layered it with red and black cardstock. The base of the ATC is plain black paper overlayed with glossy paper from the Paper Cut. I used the same alcohol ink colors on the glossy paper but used more blending solution for a lighter more muted look. The final touch is another Anita’s outline sticker cut to fit.

Marc Chagall quote ATC

Here’s another item I made with the free set of art quotes from Pennywise Art. After printing the quotes on acetate I colored this one with Ranger Alcohol Inks using Butterscotch, Carmel, Rust, Terra Cotta a bit of blending solution and Pearl. I cut it out and rounded the corners. I put another piece of paper through my Cuttlebug using a Spellbinder dye then inked the edges with Cut-n-Dry Foam using Tea Die Distress Ink. I glued the acetate to a white backing paper using Diamond Glaze. This makes the words stand out better having a light background. The base of the ATC is paper from the DCWV Rock King paper with a finishing element of Anita’s outline stickers cut to fit.

Ralph Waldo Emerson quote card

I got a free set of art quotes from Pennywise Art and made this card. I printed the quotes on acetate and colored this one in Ranger Alcohol Inks using Stream, Stonewashed and Denim a bit of blending solution and Silver. I ran this through my Cuttlebug using a Spellbinder dye. It cut OK but I think other machines might cut acetate better. I glued the acetate to a white backing paper using Diamond Glaze. This makes the words stand out better having a light background. I added one more dark blue layer bigger than the acetate that I cut with Provo Craft scissors. The base of the card was run through the Cuttlebug with an embossing folder and then inked to complete the design.

Playing Hookie

Yep I've been playing hookie again. This time I was up in New Hampshire skiing at Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods. As a military retiree I have access to excess time shares at reduced rates through the Armed Forces Vacation Club. I've used this service about 6 times in New Hampshire and Utah. This year we stayed at Loon but also did some skiing at Bretton Woods. I hope you liked the posts while I was gone. I need to get back to crafting and show you some new stuff.

Same but different

Here's a way you can use one stamp basically the same but with different inks/chalks and paper you can get a little different look. This might be nice to make a gift set of note cards for someone or in my case more anniversary cards. Each one the same but just a bit different. This stamp is from the Whispers line of Sugarloaf bought by Inque bought by Darice, like my last post.

What a great pear...I mean pair

This card was patterned after the first ATC's I made. It is an easy way to make background paper and then add your stamping later. I thought this stamp was great for an anniversary. You know pear/pair -- ok maybe a bit corny but I liked it and it is a simple image. The coloring is on watercolor paper and outlined with a gold metallic marker and then added on top of a card that also has outlining in gold. The stamp is from Anita's a division of Sugarloaf that got bought by Inque and subsequently bought by Darice. I'm not sure if they bought everything or just the recent See Dee type stamps that Inque put out.
