My home on canvas

This is Dawn an instructor at Memories Galore in Richmond, VA. When it was 105degrees outside last Saturday, I took a class with her called Home is Where Your Heart Is. We took two art canvas frames and then added paper, chipboard, sticky back canvas, a ruler and all sorts of cool embellishements to make this great "house". The only thing I didn't finish was a few embellishments and the feet.

I really enjoy all the classes I take at Memories Galore. The ones I gravitate to are really on the edge of scrapbooking leaning very much towards altered art.

Great American Scrapbook Convention

Last month I went up to the Northern Virginia area to attend the Great American Scrapbook Convention. They had almost 100 vendors selling their stuff. There was a lot of traditional scrapbook stuff (which I don't do) but a lot of stamping vendors and others selling embellishments, mini books in kits or naked form and lots of paper so I had a lot to choose from. There was a lot of classes and looking back I should have taken a few so I'll put that on the list for next year.

I was almost on my way out and saw there was a spot at the Boxer Scrapbook booth for a free make and take. Most of the make and takes were for a fee so I didn't do those. This one was to make a card. It is so simple but nice looking. The one on the left was the one I made at the show and the one on the right is the one I made after I got home using my own supplies. I already had paper, a flower punch, buttons, peel offs and gel pens to decorate the card. I think I'll make a few more with other papers....

Two flower card

I made this card at a class where the focus was on alcohol inks. For this card we inked an embossed background and then assembled the pieces to create two flowers. The paper flowers were folded in half and then in quarters with mini glue dots to hold them together. I used a bit of Sakura glaze and glitter pen to add some dimension to the leaves and grass.

More medication card

Yet another in my series of cards using the faux mother of pearl technique and a playing card by Anne Taintor. This color background is the new Ranger Distress Ink color Stormy Sky. I added a stamp by 100 Proof Press (am I nervous?) and a collage element by Crafty Secrets. A die cut with my Silhouette finishes the card.

A Stitch In Time card

Here's a faux stitching type card that I made using stamps by Impression Obsession for the background. I used three different background stamps with three different inks and alternated them. I used a Sakur gel pen for the faux stitching. The phrase is a stamp from Club Scrap and the ruler is by Hero Arts.

Open Theme ATC

Originally I had hoped to have four ATC's ready with a theme of All Things Rusty for another Yahoo group but I only got one done in time so I abandoned that thought. Instead, I used this ATC for the Altered Designs Yahoo group. This year the last week of the month is open them so it fit.

I used one of the new Sizzix Tim Holtz embossing folders and a stamp created by him from Stampers Anonymous. I used a combination of rust colored inks to complete the project.

What I "really" want to do card

Here's another card using the faux mother of pearl technique with an Anne Taintor playing card. This time I used the new Ranger Distress Ink in Barn Door. The stamps are from 100 Proof Press and Stamp Francisco.

Travel by Motor Stage card

Here's a card I sent with an ATC swap recently. I used some more of the Life's Journey paper by K&Co. I used some textured paper as a faux ribbon and added an embellishment from the same paper line. I finished off the piece with a stamped image by Tanda.

Weddings and Lovers ATC

This is the ATC I made for the Altered Designs Yahoo Group with the theme of Weddings and Lovers. I'm not sure where I got this collage image but it sure was handy. I used Ranger Distress Ink to ink the background then stamped with a Stampers Anonymous stamp. After that I added an embellishment heart by Making Memories and typed/printed out a quote by Robert Browning.

Rainy Days ATCOTM

Here's what I made for the Stampers Corner Yahoo Group ATC of the month swap. I've made a few other Rainy Day type ATC's and wanted this one to be different. The first thing that came to me was the Carpenters song "Rainy Days and Mondays" so I started with an image from Stampers Anonymous of the pouty child that almost looks like it's about to cry. I used a backgound image also from Stampers Anonymous. Both images are stamped with Ranger Distress Ink and Ranger Archival Ink.

Oriental ATCOTM

Here's what I made for the Stampers Corner ATC of the month swap. The theme was Oriental so I used a stamp by the Stamping Ground and stamped it on white paper. I also stamped portions of it on plain and patterned origami paper. I out portion of the origami paper and pieced them on to the white one that I had colored in with watercolor markers. The background is paper embossed with a Cuttlebuged embossing folder. To complete the ATC I added two embellishements from SkyBluePink, one stamped with another Stamping Ground stamp and outlined the edges with a gold marker.

Some make good pets card

I sent this card recently with an ATC from the Altered Designs Yahoo Group. I used a Sheetload template and paper by K&Co and others. The image is from Domestic Goddess collection by Crafty Secrets. The final touch is a trio of buttons that I changed color by using a bit of alcohol ink.

Leonardo ATC

This is another ATC where I used a portion of a recycled cereal box and the water based oil pastel technique. All the stamps are by Lost Coast Designs. A Tim Holtz safety pin completes the ATC. It's hard to read it in the scan but the pin says Ideas on the top.

Housework is a snap...card

Just about all of the Anne Taintor playing cards are of women but I had this one for a guy in one deck and made this card for a brother-in-law. The background is another of the Faux Mother of Pearl using the new Ranger Distress in Pumic Stone. I cut the swirl with my Silhouette SD and stamped the image with a stamp by 100 Proof Press.

Soon to be published....

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

The other day I was reading Claudine Hellmuth's blog and she had a post about The Sketchbook Project. I was intrigued so I decided to sign up. I chose the theme of "Things that change other things". I think I can fill a sketchbook with that. I might not do that much sketching though, I think I'll treat it as an altered book or a series of ATC's/greeting cards and do stamping, collage and such. We'll just have to see. I've got until mid January of next year to do this so I shouldn't have a time problem maybe artists block from time to time but what the heck I'll be published -- OK self published but published nonetheless.

Happy 4th of July!

Here's the cards I made for 4th of July. One is for my Mom and the other my Mother-in-law. I got the images as a free download on the internet. I layered the images with a bit of themed scrapbook paper and they are done.

Happy Birthday Hero

I made this card for a young man that graduated high school last year and is now in the USMC. I used a background stamp by Just For Fun and cut out stamped images by Artistic Outpost with Fiskars scissors to make it look like stamps. The sentiment is by Fiskars too.

Open Theme ATC

This weeks theme for the Altered Designs Yahoo group ATC was.....Open which meant I could use any stamps, technique or collage. I chose a stamp by Stampers Anonymous that I brayered with a Ranger Adirondak hand made rainbow ink pad on glossy paper. I added a bit of the new Tim Holtz film ribbon and the word family to complete the piece.
