Dragonflies ATCs

Here's the latest set of three ATCs I made for Sid. He picked the theme of Dragonflies. For the one on the left I stamped with Brilliance Ink then stamped using Stamping Ground stamps. I sprayed Glimmer Mist and the Brilliance resisted the coloring. I added a type stamp by Altered Arts and a few brads as an accent. The one in the middle also uses a Stamping Ground stamp that I colored with Prismacolor colored pencils then cut out and layered over paper by Leisure Arts. All dragonflies have stickles on their wings. The one on the right is my attempt to recreate this technique that was featured on the Design Junkies blog. I used swirl and flower stamps by Inque. The dragonfly is by Stamping Ground and the Diamonds by Stampers Anonymous.

Getting Grungy

Last Sunday I took another class from Tina at Beach Scrapbooks. This time we played with Rangers Grungeboard and Grungepaper. It was another technique class so there are finished items but not really a finished "project". It was another instance of me having the stuff but not having played with it too much. We applied Mod Podge to a Grungeboard letter and then applied an old dictionary page. We sprayed with Glimmer Mists. We used Ranger Distress Inks and we used Ranger Alcohol inks to make a Grungepaper flower. We embossed with the Cuttlebug too. All in all it was a fun class. Tina stared a "contest" where each student would guess a number and whoever came the closest got the project board as a gift. I came the closest so I've got the originals she made for the class and since she gave the OK I'll be using them in upcoming projects and giving her proper credit.

Unusual Holiday ATC

This ATC was for the Stampers Corner Yahoo group. I picked Pi Day on March 14th which is also the birthday of Albert Einstein. I started by stamping 3.14 (the beginning of pi - the diameter of a circle) again and again with Ranger Distress Inks and embossing with clear powder. I then embossed the paper with a Cuttlebug folder and embossed the raised areas in clear. I sprayed some gold Glimmer Mist and then added a bit of dry Caran D'Ache crayon to bring out the linen texture of the paper. I added two stamps by Stamp Camp of Einstein and one of his quotes. The final touch is a Pi symbol that I printed backwards and made into a gel medium transfer.

Open theme ATC

For me, it is generally easier to think of what to for a themed ATC than an open theme. When I have boundaries I immediately know what of my stuff I can't use. That makes the choice of what to do easier. When there are no boundaries now I have that much more stuff to filter.

I hadn't used this Mad Hatter's Tea Party stamp set yet so in this case the decision of what to do and use wasn't as agonizing as it could have been. I used some Gold Glimmer Mist on the handmade swirly background paper. The tea party image is stamped and embossed with detail embossing powder then cut out and colored in with Whisper Watercolor markers.

Tour de Mist with Lauren

This was an awesome project that I did last week with Lauren Ferguson. She called it Tour de Mist (I forgot to ask her if she named it in honor of the bike race in France currently underway but it is too much of a coincidence to not be). We stared out using glimmer mist in a variety of ways on shipping tags. This way we could see which techniques we liked, how we sprayed and which colors we liked. This album and the Glimmer Mists are by Tattered Angels. They also made the stencils that I used on the pages. I used some as a stencil and then used the spray that was on them and got the positive image. It seemed so natural to do this. We had lots of colors to choose from by I gravitated to my favorites the earth tones. We also used Ranger Distress Inks. I've got a bunch of goodies that I can put in this (tags, paper flowers and embellishments) but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I'm not a scrapbooker so I probably won't put photos in it. I got a bunch of great ideas and will incorporate them into future projects.

A Fishy Challenge

May was Sid's choice to choose a theme for our ATC swap. He chose "Fishy". I'll have to admit I almost wrote "pick another theme", but replied I was up for a challenge. Turns out it wasn't so bad after all.

The blue one was made with a small section of scrapbook paper that came in a bundle. I over stamped with a stamp bubble looking stamp from Stamp Camp in clear embossing powder. I picked the various sections and colored in with Ranger Distress Inks to try to make the bubbles pop. I layered that on top of glimmery white paper from the Paper Cut that I also colored with the distress inks. After that I looked at it and decided something was missing, so borrowing from Dr. Suess I used the title of one of his great books -- one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.

The middle one was made with a stamp by Rubber Stampede that I stamped on some thick handmade mulberry paper. I colored it in with some shimmery watercolor paints by Yasutomo. After that I sprayed it with Polar Glimmer Mist and layered on a metallic paper by DCWV and added the fiber.

Two down one to go. This last one shows a bit of my weird humor. I had this stamp of the woman holding her nose and thought it would go great with a picture of a fish. Then I found this quote and it all came together. The stamp is from 100 Proof Press.

Paint Effects ATC

Here's another mingle ATC I did for my Stampers Corner Yahoo group. This theme was Paint Effects. I used a series of walnut ink washes in different strengths then added a bit of salt and walnut ink crystals while it was wet. The salt acts as a resist and the walnut ink crystals act like a sponge absorbing the dark color. I also added a bit of Fiber Scraps e-z Walnut Ink Tintz in Brick, Lime and Denim. On top of that I added a homemade glaze of Golden Titan buff mixed with Polymer Medium. I then added some more Fibre Scraps Tintz in a dry brush technique. The final steps were a spray of Glimmer Mists in Iridescent Gold and Pearl followed by an outline of Krylon 18K gold on the edges. The stamped image from Tanda Stamps is on vellum.

Vintage ATC's for Sid

Sid picked Vintage for our March ATC swap theme. I had fun with this one (I have with all of them actually).
The one on the left is made with Sugarloaf/Inque stamps from the Victorian Dressmaker set. First I took some ordinary tissue paper and crumpled it a bit. Then I sprayed some Gold Glimmer Mist to simulate and old dress pattern. I attached that to a piece of cardstock with Paper Mod Podge applying it to the cardstock and then on top of the tissue paper. Two of the images I stamped then glued onto the card and the third (the one of the woman) I over stamped.
The middle ATC is made with a Tim Holtz stamp from Stampers Anonymous. I cut out the holes where the negatives would be then printed out images I found for free from Gaby. I stamped the clock/watch face again and then covered it with glossy accents for dimension.
The one on the right is an image from Artful Illusions. I colored in the background with distress inks and added the cigar label which sort of gives this guy the distinguished name "Lord Sterling".

Spinner ATC's

These three ATC’s were for Sid in the UK for our monthly swap. I picked the theme which was to use craft spinner often used by children (hey we are all BIG kids right?). This was featured on the Yahoo group the Scrapbook Lounge. Unfortunately there aren’t any new episodes but the Yahoo group is alive and well.
#1
Center the card on the spinner. Dip a waterbrush into your color (I used Colorations Watercolor in lime, orange, green) and lightly touch the card as it is spinning. Add the second and third colors drying in between colors. Next, move the card to each of the four colors and reapply the colors drying in between. The stamp I used is from Impression Obsession. I stamped it using Whisper Orange and Butterscotch dye inks. Trace the lines of the stamp with a VersaMarker and emboss with clear embossing powder. Next, outline edges with Marvy Metallic Marker. Add the dragonfly embellishments and add to an orange background.

#2
Color over the openings of a Plaid swirl stencil with a VersaMarker on Paper Cut glossy paper. This will act as a resist. Center the paper on the spinner. Spray Colorations Watercolor spray with Fuchsia and Turquoise without drying in between. Spray Glimmer Mist Pearl and dry all sprays. Run the card through a Cuttlebug with swirl embossing folder. Dab the raised portions with Tsukineko Brilliance in Pearlescent purple, lavender and sky blue. Add the metallic word from Michaels $1 bargain bin and mount on a black background.
#3
The base is black glossy paper from the Paper Cut and the flowers are white glossy paper also from the Paper Cut. Estimate the size you need based on the size of the punch and cut to size. Center the piece of paper on the spinner. Using a fine tip Sharpie lightly touch the tip to the paper while it is spinning. Mix the colors to suit your taste. Punch the squares into the flowers. Adhere the flowers using a small Xyron to the black glossy cardstock.
I had fun making these and hope Sid likes them.
